Camel Fair

An astonishing 30,000 camels converge on the tiny desert town of Pushkar, in India’s state of Rajasthan, for the annual Camel Fair. It’s a fascinating and peculiar sight. Originally a camel trading event, the mela has grown to include cultural events and even a camel beauty pageant. The Camel Fair alone attracts over 100,000 visitors.

A typical pyre is made of 300 kilograms or so of wood. Rich families sometimes pay for the entire pyre to be made up of sandalwood. Average cost of a funeral is $12 to $71. 

Slow Train Coming

Covered in eternal fog, train station in Ghum is the highest train station in India (Altitude 2259 meters). Built by British between 1879 and 1881, it is about 88 kilometers long from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling. Originally it was meant for tea and goods transportation.
